Pensioners targeted in weekend burglaries

An 84-year-old woman was left badly shaken after a burglary at her east Belfast home.

At about 8pm on Saturday, January 23, she was disturbed by two men who had broken into her Titania Street home by a forced kitchen window.

One of the assailants kept her in her chair while the other searched the house. They escaped with cash.

The pensioner was described by a police spokesperson as "unhurt by the intruders but badly shaken by her ordeal".

Meanwhile, an 86-year-old woman was robbed at her home in Glengormley, Co Antrim.

Four masked men broke into the Harmin Park premises at about 10.30pm on Saturday night and escaped with a sum of cash. She too was described as "uninjured but extremely shaken by her ordeal".
