Personal stories: Mark Bevin, chef and fundraiser

My charity book sale will raise RVH funds

Mark Bevin (47) from Antrim is the head chef at The Maldron Hotel at Belfast International Airport.

He is gathering 1,000 books for a charity book sale this autumn to raise funds for the Medical Genetics department at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and needs your help.

Mark said: "The whole idea started when I asked head chef Noel McMeel in Lough Erne to send me a couple of copies of his new book signed for a special book auction I was hoping to have in Belfast during Restaurant Week in October.

"When he arrived at the hotel he handed me two signed copies. I was so taken back by the generosity of the man I decided to ask Twitter followers to help and the flood gates just opened up.

"To date I have been given books from Theo Randall, Michael Roux Junior, Ching He Huang, Mark Hix, Nigel Slater, Clodagh McKenna and Chapter One in Dublin. The list just goes on and on."

Money raised through the project will be donated to the RVH.

Mark said: "I'm raising funds for Medical Genetics at RVH Belfast so any help that I can get from Belfast Telegraph readers would be amazing indeed.

"To get involved search @Roubuchon1 on Twitter or the Google Plus community called The Food Lovers Guide.

"All foodies are welcome."
