Personal Stories: Running 26 miles will be big moment

Anne Hannan on why she's doing the Belfast Marathon

By Staff Reporter

Marie Curie Partnership Manager Anne Hannan reveals her motivation to sign up for the 2015 Belfast Marathon and make it her 'moment that matters'.

Anne said: "'At your age you should have more sense' - that was my father's comment when I told him I fancied giving the 34th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon a go and that I'd started training.

"The marathon is one of Northern Ireland's most famous and well-supported events, so for Marie Curie to be chosen as the official charity for the 2015 event is something we're all very excited about.

"The theme for the 2015 event is 'Make This Your Moment' and we'd encourage all those interested in getting involved to do just that, to think about their moment that motivates them to lace up their running shoes and to support Marie Curie.

"2015 marks a significant moment for Marie Curie as we look forward to celebrating its 50th anniversary of the Belfast Hospice - 50 years of providing specialist and dedicated care to those with a terminal illness.

"Personally, I'll also be celebrating my 50th year, so my decision to give the marathon a go isn't as crazy as my dear Dad initially thought.

"Don't worry if you don't fancy the full 26.2 miles - you could enter the fun run get involved as part of a relay team or complete the walking course.

"Why not sign up today at and make 2015 your Moment that Matters?"
