Petrol bomb attack on former Quinn group site in Co Fermanagh

Detectives are appealing for information after a report of a petrol bomb attack at former Quinn group premises in Co Fermanagh on Monday night.

Shortly before 9.15pm, it was reported that a car with a number of males on board stopped outside the site, now home to Aventas, in Ballyconnell Road, Derrylin.

It is believed that two petrol bombs were thrown, causing scorch damage.

The men made off along the Ballyconnell Road area.

The incident is one of a spate of similar attacks on former Quinn group sites, previously run by one-time billionaire Sean Quinn.

SDLP Erne West Councillor Brendan Gallagher said such "mindless" attacks must stop before someone is seriously injured.

"Local people working at the Aventas site need to be allowed to travel and attend their working day under proper conditions," he said. "This sort of continued behavior does nothing to help local workers.

"I understand that there is a continued sense of anger among some in the local community but this does not give them the right to take part in reckless vigilantism. I urge those responsible to stop immediately before someone is seriously injured."

Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information about the incident to contact them at CID in Enniskillen on 0845 600 8000. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
