The car was en route to an emergency call from a distressed woman during the early hours of Friday when the device was thrown from an alleyway close to a fast food restaurant, hitting the side of the car before igniting.

The incident happened on Church Road, Newtownabbey, at around 1.30am. The device was thrown by a man described as around 5ft 10in tall, dressed entirely in black with his face covered. The culprit ran away down the alley.
