Petrol bombs and fireworks thrown at police during Derry security alert

More than a dozen petrol bombs have been thrown at police after a security alert in Londonderry.

Fireworks were also thrown at police after a suspicious object was found at Butcher Gate shortly after 11.30pm on Friday night.

It was later declared a hoax.

Police said they were attacked with fireworks and petrol bombs in the Fahan Street area.

It's understood there were no injuries.
