Petrol bombs target murder scene officers

By Staff Reporter

Thugs hurled petrol bombs at police guarding a murder scene yesterday morning.

The missiles were thrown at officers outside an apartment complex in Lurgan's Victoria Street, where a 45-year-old man was killed on Friday.

The PSNI said a small number of petrol bombs were thrown at officers.

"They landed on the road and no one was injured," it said.

"Police officers were holding the integrity of the crime scene.

"There were only a handful of officers there at the time."

Upper Bann DUP MLA Carla Lockhart hit out at the people behind the attack on police.

"I utterly condemn this attack," she said.

"This thoughtless action endangered lives.

"Someone could easily have been badly injured."

A 45-year-old believed to be the twin brother of the murdered man was arrested after the murder. He was later been released on bail pending enquiries.
