Petrol bombs have been thrown at police during disorder in Co Armagh.

The PSNI advised motorists to avoid the Levin Road area of Kilwilkie, in Lurgan.

A security alert was raised in Lurgan earlier on Sunday following the discovery of a suspicious device in the Tarry Drive area.

Superintendent Wendy Middleton said: “Detectives from the PSNI Terrorism Investigation Unit (TIU) conducted planned searches in the Lurgan area today (Sunday August 23), in relation to an ongoing investigation into violent dissident republican activity.

“A number of items were seized and taken away for forensic examination.”
