World-famous singer-songwriter Phil Coulter has described his performance at Clonard Monastery this week as "up there with some of my best ever".

The Londonderry-born musician was performing at the West Belfast Festival this week in the inspirational surroundings of the ornate Redemptorist monastery.

Mr Coulter said he had been "truly humbled by the reception from the wonderful folks in Clonard Monastery at Feile Belfast, and genuinely overwhelmed by the reaction afterwards".

He added: "I have never enjoyed so many tweeted compliments."

"This was more than a show.

"It was an event - and it is up there with some of my best ever," he said on social media.

Hundreds of fans had packed into the monastery for the musician's concert.

Fan Lisa McClean tweeted: "It was a musical spectacular and a privilege to be a part of it."
