Photographers recognised at awards night

Stunning images by some of Northern Ireland's best photographers have been hailed at a top awards ceremony.

Among those at the Press Photographer of the Year 2017 awards in Dublin was the Press Association's Niall Carson.

His picture of two fallow deer clashing in Phoenix Park, Dublin came third in the Nature and the Environment category of the competition run by the Press Photographers Association of Ireland.

Justin Kernohan's simple composition of a young girl admiring a huge portrait of Seamus Heaney at the official launch of the HomePlace exhibition was third in the Daily Life and People section.

And Ramsey Cardy of Sportsfile's image of Bruce Springsteen performing at Croke Park, Dublin, came second in the Arts and Entertainment category.

Independent News & Media's Gerry Mooney was named Press Photographer of the Year.
