The Fire Service used specialist rescue equipment to help a horse involved in a Fermanagh car crash.

The animal was being transported in a horse box which overturned during the crash on the Derrylin Road in Enniskillen on Wednesday.

A Fire Service spokesman said: "We regularly attend Road Traffic Collisions (RTC) where people are trapped, and we use specialist Extrication equipment to perform rescues.

"Today we had an RTC with a difference, where as well as freeing the driver of a crashed car another trapped casualty was a horse.

"Crews and an officer from Enniskillen, assisted by Omagh Specialist Large Animal Rescue team were able to free the animal after it had been sedated by a local vet.

"The horse was then transported to a local farm where it quickly recovered from its ordeal."
