Pilots reach for skies at Portrush airshow

By Staff Reporter

More than 200,000 spectators are set to head to the north coast this weekend for Air Waves Portrush.

The annual airshow, running this weekend, will include the world-famous RAF Red Arrows who will perform their trademark formations, close-passes and dynamic loops.

Visitors can also expect to fly back in time with the sights and sounds of the Battle of Britain Memorial trio of a Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane.

Also among the highlights will be the jaw-dropping manoeuvres of the Typhoon Jet, the breath-taking aerobatics of the Wildcats display team and the daring feats of the colourful Muscle Biplane.

Team Raven, an aerobatic display team, will also be making their first ever appearance at Air Waves Portrush, and helicopter fans are in for a treat with an appearance by Vietnam veteran craft Huey and Loach, and the Cold War Soviet fighter jet, the MiG-15 UTI, known as the Midget.

Meanwhile, on the ground there will be street entertainment, a play zone, Motor Village, STEM Village and artisan market.
