Pipe bomb attack in Newry housing estate 'could have killed'
A pipe bomb which exploded in a Newry housing estate has been condemned as a "senseless attack" which could have killed.
The blast happened in the Patrician Park area on Wednesday night.
An explosion went off outside a house - causing damage to the front door and a car parked outside - at around 9.20pm.
Police confirmed the blast was due to a pipe bomb.
The area was closed off for around three hours while Army bomb teams assessed the area.
There were no reports of any injuries.
SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley condemned those behind the attack.
"I was distressed to hear that two pipe bombs were thrown at a house in Patrician Park in Newry.
"This house is in a quiet residential area and this was a senseless attack for which there is absolutely no justification. It could easily have caused injury or death.
"Those behind this attack are enemies of our community and anyone with any information should contact the police immediately."
Police have appealed for information.
