Pipe bomb condemned

The planting of a pipe bomb in Stratheden Street, off the Antrim Road has been condemned.

Around 50 families were evacuated after the suspicious device was discovered outside a property last week.

Army Technical Officers attended the scene to make the device safe.

North Belfast DUP MP Nigel Dodds said: “It is appalling that once again some twisted individuals are leaving explosive devices on the streets of north Belfast. This is the second time that a pipe bomb has been left outside a house in this area in little more than a week.

“Whatever motivation lies behind these actions, they are reckless and irresponsible in the extreme. Acts of terrorism are as wrong and evil today as they were wrong and evil in the past. The only outcome today has been the urgent evacuation of 50 households from their homes on a severely cold morning and massive inconvenience to everyone affected.”
