Pipe bomb found during west Belfast security alert
A pipe bomb was uncovered during an overnight security alert in west Belfast which forced residents from their homes.
Police dealt with an alert at Andersonstown Crescent in the early hours of Tuesday, July 26.
A report of a suspicious object at a house in the area was received at around 12.30am.
Homes were evacuated and roads closed for several hours while the object was examined.
It was declared a "viable pipe bomb type device" and made safe before being taken for further examination.
Residents were allowed back to their homes just before 3.30am.
