A viable pipe bomb has been found in west Belfast, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed.

The device, which has been removed for forensic examination, was discovered during a security alert at Meadowhill Grange.

A number of residents were evacuated for several hours while Army technical experts examined the suspicious object.

They have since been allowed to return home.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI said searches in the area were continuing.
