Pipe bomb thrown at house in Newtownabbey

A viable pipe bomb has been taken away for examination following a security alert in Newtownabbey.

A number of people were asked to leave their homes after the device was thrown at a house in Voltaire Gardens.

Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson said: "The device was made safe by Army Technical Officers after police received a report that a pipe bomb had been thrown at a house.

"The device was discovered in the garden at around 10pm."

Detectives are appealing for information and can be contacted at Musgrave police station on the non-emergency number 101.
