Pipes are calling for a spectacular musical event at Stormont

By Staff Reporter

Belfast's new Lord Mayor is drumming up support for the UK Pipe Band Championships at Stormont later this month.

Brian Kingston will be chieftain for the day for the huge annual event. Around 130 of the finest pipe and drum bands from all over the UK and Ireland will compete for the coveted title of UK Champions on Saturday, June 11.

It's the first event in a three-year contract with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

The free, family friendly, all-day event is expected to attract thousands of visitors. "We love hosting this spectacular event in Belfast," said Mr Kingston.

Ian Embelton, chief executive of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, said: "We're really looking forward to being back in Belfast again."

Admission is free and the gates open at 8.30am. For more information on the event, transport and parking arrangements, terms and conditions, visit:
