Planetlove dance fest is marred by violent assault

A 21-year-old man was attacked at the Planetlove dance festival in Belfast’s King’s Hall on Saturday night.

He suffered serious head injuries in the attack at around 10.15pm and was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

SDLP South Belfast councillor Niall Kelly has expressed concern over the event following the serious assault.

“I am saddened to hear that a 21-year-old man is currently in the Royal Victoria Hospital after a serious assault,” he said. “My thoughts go out to this young man and his family at this time.

“Apart from this assault, I still have a number of serious doubts over the suitability of the King’s Hall for holding this festival.

“The King’s Hall is in the middle of a residential area and it was not designed for thousands of people emptying on to the streets at one o’clock in the morning.

No one from the Planetlove festival was available for comment on the incident last night.
