Play day at the Glen estate

Locals have celebrated the opening of a new play area in the Glen estate, Newtownards.

Glen Ward Community Association organised a fun day on Saturday to mark the official opening of the new £40,000 play park — one of seven new play areas to have been created recently by Ards Borough Council as part of its £700,000 play park refurbishment programme.

Mayor of Ards, Councillor David Smyth, said the council had been renovating play areas across the borough and added: “It's a pleasure to see that, here in the Glen, the new facilities are appreciated and enjoyed, and that the community has come together to mark the occasion.”

Margaret Cox from the Glen Ward Community Association thanked the council and said: "A play area in the estate has been a much-needed resource for many years."

Play parks at Lisbarnet, Millisle, Greyabbey, Kircubbin, Cloughey and Donaghadee are earmarked for modernisation by the end of the year.
