Play park assault by baseball bat gang in Belfast's Ormeau Avenue area

A man has been attacked by a gang brandishing baseball bats in a play park.

Detectives have appealed for information following the serious assault in Belfast's Ormeau Avenue area.

The victim and a woman were in the play park shortly after midday on Sunday when the three men approached them and assaulted the male.

The man sustained injuries to his head, legs, arms and back. He received hospital treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. The woman was not injured.

Detective Sergeant Neil Maxwell said: "The first male is described as late 30s, of medium build, approximately 6ft tall, very light coloured short hair and wearing a red top and light coloured shorts. The second male is described as late 30s, approximately 5ft 9in tall and wearing a blue jacket and long dark trousers/tracksuit bottoms. The third male is described as late 30s, short dirty fair hair and wearing a red jacket and dark trousers."

Anyone who witnessed the assault should call 101.
