Plea to rugby fans over armed raid

Police have urged rugby fans to help them catch an armed robber.

A man held a knife to the throat of a female member of staff at a supermarket in Cregagh Road in east Belfast.

After demanding she open the till, he made off with a sum of cash in the direction of Woodstock Road.

It is understood the woman was left extremely traumatised by the ordeal.

Police believe there were large crowds in the area at the time - around 9pm on Friday night - as a rugby match had just ended nearby.

They have appealed for anyone who was there and may have information which could help them catch the raider to contact them.

The suspect is described as between 30 and 40 years old and about 5ft 10in. He was wearing a black hat and a beige jacket, as well as a scarf over his face.
