Plight of Palestinians highlighted in exhibit
Snapshots of life in Palestine will make up a new exhibition as part of the Gasyard Feile in Londonderry.
The showcase has been put together by Catholic aid agency Trócaire and gives an insight into the plight of Palestinians and the history of the region.
Trócaire’s North West development officer Lawrence McBride said that the exhibition would be informative as well as interesting and presents some striking parallels.
“There are many pilgrimages to the Holy Land from Ireland and this exhibition aims to inform people of the situation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, especially if they intend to travel to the region,” he said.
“We have tried to compare the Biblical journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem with the plight of many Palestinian women trying to access medical services in East Jerusalem during their pregnancies.”
The exhibition is entitled ‘Unknown Journeys’ and runs in Culturlann Ui Chanain, 37 Great James’ Street, Derry from the August 6 to 14. Admission is free and open to the public.
