Police appeal after arson attacks on house and car

A car and a house have been damaged in arson attacks in Kilkeel.

It is believed a petrol bomb was thrown at a vehicle in Newry Street shortly after 2.20am.

Just over an hour later, an unoccupied house in Carn Gardens was also targeted. The living room window was smashed and rubbish was set alight, police said.

Fire crews were called to extinguish both blazes.

Detective Inspector Colin Patterson said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Newry Street or Carn Gardens areas in the early hours of this morning, or who may have information about the incidents, to contact police in Kilkeel on 101.

"Alternatively, information can be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
