Residents were forced to evacuate their homes after a suspicious object was discovered in north Belfast.
The device, which contained component parts, was found outside a residential property in the Stanhope Street area on Saturday.
Army technical officers attended and the object was taken away for forensic examination.
PSNI Superintendent Norman Haslett said: "A number of residents were moved from their homes during this alert and we are thankful to them for their patience.
"Those who left this object in a residential area clearly have no regard for the people living here and I am appealing for the community's support in identifying those responsible."
North Belfast MLA Caral Ni Chuilin said it was an "extremely reckless incident which endangered the lives of local residents".
