Police appeal after 'device was placed under vehicle'

By Cate McCurry

Police are appealing for information following an unconfirmed report that a device may have been placed under a vehicle.

It is believed the vehicle — which has been identified by the PSNI — has travelled along the O’Neill Road and Church Road in Newtownabbey.

A spokesman for the PSNI confirmed that the vehicle does not belong to anyone in the police or military.

Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said: “Police in Newtownabbey are appealing for information after an unconfirmed report was received on Monday, December 5, that a device may have been placed under a vehicle.”

Paul Hamill, DUP councillor for the area, said it was a “concerning” development.

“People walk up and down that road to the local garage and to other facilities in the area and it is putting many lives in danger,” he said.

“Hopefully the device will be found soon, removed and made safe.”
