Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a "serious sexual assault" in south Belfast.

Police said a teenage boy was discovered injured at around 9.30pm on Monday on Ravenhill Avenue.

He was taken to hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Detective Sergeant McArthur said: "I am appealing to anyone who was in the Ravenhill Avenue area at around 9.30pm on Monday and witnessed the assault to contact us.

"In particular, I would appeal to a woman who we believe was walking her dog at the time and who may be able to assist with our enquiries to get in touch."

A man in his 40s has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Anyone with any information has been urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference 1652 of 22/04/19.
