Police appeal after 'serious sexual assault' on teenage girl in west Belfast


A teenage girl has been sexually assaulted in the grounds of the City Cemetery in west Belfast.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the serious sexual assault of a teenage girl during the early hours of Saturday May 30.

It was reported that sometime during the early hours of Saturday morning the girl was in the grounds of the cemetery when she was approached by an unknown male who then assaulted her.

The male is described as being aged in his 40s, of medium build, clean shaven with short black hair.

Detectives are particularly keen to speak with a woman who assisted the girl after the assault.

The woman is described as being aged in her 30s or 40s, with blonde hair tied up in a ponytail and wearing some type of uniform.

She was driving a red car and stopped with the girl on the Falls Road and gave her a lift to the Downpatrick area.

Detective Sergeant Gary Chambers is appealing for the woman or anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Public Protection Branch in Ladas Drive on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
