Police appeal as teenager assaulted at soccer match

By Staff Reporter

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was left with serious injuries to the face during a football match in Co Down.

The 14-year-old boy sustained a suspected hairline fracture to his jaw and also damage to his teeth after he was assaulted during a match at grounds on the Comber Road in Dundonald at around 12.30pm on Saturday, August 26.

A PSNI spokesman revealed that the injury had been inflicted by a player on the pitch, and not a spectator or official.

However, he was unable to say which soccer teams were involved in the match.

Police are calling for anyone who was a witness to the incident - or anyone with any information that could be of assistance to the investigation - to contact officers in Lisburn on 101.

Information about the incident may also be given anonymously to police via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
