Three men have been arrested following the report of a power tool theft at a commercial premises in the Lisburn area.

It happened on Saturday June 16, when shortly before 12.30pm police received a report that a quantity of power tools had been stolen from a store in the Sprucefield area of Lisburn.

The three suspects, aged 18, 19, and 21, were seen fleeing the area in a blue-coloured Hyundai Accent in the direction of Dublin.

A short time after this police located the car fitting the description abandoned on a road.

The three suspects took off across a field but were detained a short time later.

Chief Inspector Barney O'Connor said: "Both the 18-year old and the 21-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of theft, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a Class B controlled drug. The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft. All three remain in custody, assisting police with enquiries.

"While officers dealt with this incident yesterday, it was necessary to close the A1 for a short time to keep officers and the public safe, and I would like to thank the public for their assistance."
