Police arrest youth over theft of car

A 16-year-old youth was arrested early yesterday morning in west Belfast after the community complained of someone attempting to break into a number of properties and vehicles.

PSNI Chief Inspector Kellie McMillan said officers received calls and arrested the male after a chase in Glenhill Park shortly after 2.30am.

She explained: "On arrival, officers found an abandoned car which had been crashed into another parked car.

"After a search of the area and a short chase on foot, officers arrested a young male matching the reporting callers' description, who is currently helping police with our enquiries.

"I would like to thank the local community for their help in reporting these incidents so quickly to us, which resulted in the arrest."

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including assaulting police, possession of a blade, drugs and vehicle taking.
