The Fire Service also attended to put out the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of a number of offences including riotous behaviour, obstructing police, arson and criminal damage. He was later released on police bail pending further investigation.
Chief Inspector David Nixon said: "I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area at this time and saw what happened to contact us.
"This was completely reckless behaviour that not only tied up valuable resources, but has no place in our community.
"If you have information which can help our investigation call us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 400 of 13/07/19.
"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
