Police begin search for NI man missing in south east London

By Rebecca Black

The Metropolitan Police have launched a search to find a Northern Irish father who has gone missing in London.

Robert Gibson (45), originally from Ballinderry, was last seen at around 3pm on Monday when he left his home in the Gipsy Hill area of south east London to go for a walk.

He is well known in his adopted city for campaigning to save library services in Upper Norwood and Lambeth.

Robert's friends have posted thousands of leaflets across London and started a Twitter hashtag #FindRobbie in a bid to trace him.

It is understood he is married with a young son.

Local councillor Pat Ryan described Robert as a devoted family man "always at the heart" of the community.

"Robbie is exceptionally passionate," he told the Croydon Advertiser.

"He has made a huge contribution and is appreciated by everybody in and around Palace.

"I really hope and pray Robbie is well and if he's listening to us, we want him to come back."
