Police have carried out a number of searches in north Belfast in connection with dissident republican activity.

Officers from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch carried out searches in the Ardoyne area of the city on Wednesday night.

PSNI detective superintendent Kevin Geddes said: "Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch, assisted by local police, carried out searches at two properties last night.

"A number of items were seized and taken away for forensic examination."
