Police catch murderer on run from Maghaberry Prison

Police located and arrested convicted murderer Samuel McKinley (57) in the greater Belfast area on Sunday morning.

McKinley absconded from Maghaberry Prison while on unsupervised day release on Thursday.

He is serving life for stabbing his friend Robin Stoddart to death during a drinking session in Southampton in 1996.

The convicted killer is originally from the Shankill area of Belfast.

Since 2002, he has absconded from day release or breached his pre-release/licence conditions on a number of occasions.

A PSNI spokesperson thanked the public for their assistance in locating McKinley.
