Police chase drama as officers pursue car for 40 miles from Belfast to Newry

PSNI officers chased a car 40miles from Belfast to the outskirts of Newry yesterday.

The pursuit of a silver Renault Scenic, which began on the Falls Road, ended when a stinger device stretched across the road burst the car's tyres just outside Newry.

A police spokesman said a 35-year-old man is being questioned. He said the car failed to stop for the PSNI at around 4pm and reversed into a police car, causing damage and injuring two officers.

The car was then driven out of Belfast in the direction of the border, pursued by police vehicles.
