Police evacuate homes in bomb alert

Several homes were evacuated after two suspicious devices were found in Northern Ireland, police said.

Officers were called to the Ross Road area, near Falls Road, Belfast, after being alerted to the devices at around 2am.

An army technical officer was also sent to the scene.

A police spokeswoman said: "A number of homes are in the process of being evacuated and the road has been closed."

Twenty-six people, who were mostly elderly or infirm, were taken to the Divis Community Centre, which was opened to accommodate the evacuated residents.

Police said the road was likely to remain closed "for some time".
