Police have been granted additional time to question a suspect in a murder investigation.

Fisherman Stefan Zait (45), who was originally from Romania, was attacked in Ardglass just before 11am on Tuesday suffering serious injuries. He later passed away on Thursday sparking a PSNI murder investigation.

On Friday police were granted extra time to question a 20-year-old man arrested after the assault.

A 40-year-old woman also arrested remains in police custody.

A 23-year-old man was also arrested in the wake of the incident but subsequently released on bail pending further police inquiries.

Mr Zait was described as a well-known and popular figure in the local fishing community.

"He was always smiling, from ear to ear," said one friend.

"He was a sea dog - he loved the sea and he didn't deserve what he got."

Sinn Fein MLA Emma Rogan expressed condolences to the man's family.

"The people of Ardglass are stunned and shocked at this news," she said.
