Police helicopter used to chase down suspected burglar

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of burglary following an incident in Portrush.

A short time after midnight on Thursday the PSNI received a report of a burglary in progress at Causeway Street in Portrush.

Police said officers arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and established the suspect had made his way into a nearby wooded area.

Officers on the ground were assisted by the police helicopter to surround the local area.

The 22-year-old male suspect was arrested and taken to Coleraine police station where he continues to help police with their inquiries.

Speaking about the operation, Inspector Colin Shaw said: "I would like to take this opportunity to commend the officers involved in the successful arrest of this individual.

"I would also ask anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and who has any information which could be of assistance to police to contact officers in Coleraine on 101 quoting reference number 6 14/09/17."
