Police hunt man who attempted to lure young woman into car - latest in spate of incidents in Belfast

Police in south Belfast are searching for a middle-aged man who tried to entice a young woman into his car.

The report of the attempted abduction is believed to be the latest in a series that have occurred in the area.

The incident happened on Friday, March 29 at 2pm as the woman was walking to the gym along side streets off the Tate’s Avenue area.

She was approached by a man in a small silver-coloured car with a Republic of Ireland registration who pulled up and asked her for directions.

The man then attempted to get her to enter the car several times before she fled the scene on foot.

He is described as being aged in his 50s and of slim build with grey hair and grey facial hair. 

He also spoke with a southern Irish accent. 

The woman was left shaken but unharmed following the incident.

According to police, similar incidents have been reported in the area over recent weeks with young females being the prime target.

Detectives at Lisburn Road Police Station are investigating the matter and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
