Police intercept £100k package of cannabis destined for Northern Ireland

Police have intercepted a package of approximately £100,000 worth of cannabis which was intended for Northern Ireland.

The package was intercepted in England on Saturday January 7.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Police said one search has been carried out in the greater Belfast area so far and further searches in relation to this recovery will be carried out in due course.

Detective Inspector McAuley said: "This has taken a substantial amount of drugs out of circulation and reduced the harm they cause to communities. Seizures such as this demonstrate our ongoing commitment to tackling the scourge of drugs in our society.

"I would encourage anyone who has any information about the use or supply of illegal drugs to contact police on the non-emergency number 101 with any information they have.

"Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
