Detectives investigating the murder of a 69-year-old man from Ballymena have issued a specific appeal for information.

Matt Shirley's body was recovered from a flat in the Drumtara estate on Tuesday afternoon.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Dickson would appeal to anyone who may have seen Matthew between 9.00am on Monday April 27 and 5.00pm on Tuesday, April 28 to contact Detectives on the non-emergency number 101.

Or, alternatively information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Detectives have been granted additional time by a court to interview two men aged 41 and 49 and a woman aged 47.

Mr Shirley, known to his friends as 'Matha', lived alone less than a mile from where he was found dead. Locals said he was well-known and liked in the town.

The grieving niece of a Ballymena pensioner spoke of the family's devastation at the murder of a man who "got on with everybody".
