Police make second arrest after disturbances in Glengormley

By Staff Reporter

Police have made a second arrest in connection with disorder in Glengormley on the outskirts of north Belfast earlier this week.

A 21-year old-man has already been charged with riotous behaviour and possession of an offensive weapon.

Chief Inspector Stephen Reid said: "A second man, aged 20, was also arrested in connection with the disorder and is helping police at present.

"Local officers are working hard on the ground to keep people safe and ensure that we do not see a repeat of the disorder across the coming weekend.

"We also continue to engage with local elected representatives in our efforts to find resolutions to the well documented tensions within our communities. I warned that those involved in the disorder would be brought before the courts and I repeat that warning with respect to any future incidents.

"People need to consider the consequences of their actions. A criminal record can severely impact future life choices. Please see the bigger picture and make the right choices."

He warned: "The investigation to identify further offenders and offences committed in Glengormley continues."
