Police manhunt after attacker knifes two in west Belfast

By Michael Sheils McNamee

Two people were stabbed during an incident last night at a property in Lagmore Avenue in west Belfast.

Police were called to the scene after reports that a knife-wielding attacker had stabbed a man and made off towards a children's play park, before continuing into adjoining fields.

The Ambulance Service said that it was called out just after 8.30pm.

Three ambulances attended the scene, along with an A&E crew.

Two people were treated for stab wounds, one to the head and the other to the back, and then taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

A police helicopter and dog unit carried out a search in the area to try and apprehend the attacker.

It is understood that a number of residents, some of whom were children, witnessed the serious attack.

Police officers remained at the scene last night.
