Police name man who died in Coleraine road accident as Jim McCollum

A pensioner has died following a road crash in Co Londonderry yesterday.

Jim McCollum, who was 75-years-old, died at the scene after the Land Rover he was driving struck a tree on the Curragh Road in Coleraine.

It's understood Mr McCollum lived close to where the accident happened.

The single vehicle collision happened at around 4pm yesterday.

The road near Castleroe Wood was closed for some time last night while police carried out investigations into the fatality.

Inspector Purvis has asked anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information which could assist the police investigation to contact officers at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 753 07/03/17.
