Police officer hit-and-run accused sent 'text threats' to woman, court hears

By Staff Reporter

A Tyrone man who had been on bail in relation to multiple serious charges - including the alleged hit-and-run of a police officer - has been remanded in custody following an incident of intimidation involving one of the victims.

Caolan Rooney (23) of Hillside Terrace, Benburb, is charged with grievous bodily injury to a PSNI officer by dangerous driving before making off from the scene.

He is also accused of dangerous driving and a catalogue of other charges committed between Blackwatertown, from where it is alleged Rooney made off at speed, and Eglish, where it is alleged he assaulted two police officers.

Rooney appeared in court on June 14 where he was bailed and ordered not to contact any victims or witnesses. However, he is alleged to have sent text messages to a female he is accused of assaulting on June 20.

He was remanded in custody at Dungannon Magistrates Court until next month.
