Police officers injured in Belfast car chase

Three police officers have been injured in a car chase in Belfast which followed an attempted armed robbery.

Police pursued the silver Audi A3 in the early hours of on Monday morning, which was reported to have been involved in the attempted robbery of a shop in Stranmillis on Sunday.

The vehicles crashed off Divis Street in west Belfast, damaging two police cars and injuring three officers.

A suspect firearm was recovered from the vehicle and police arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of attempted armed robbery, carrying a firearm with intent and attempted grevious bodily harm with intent in Ardmoulin Street.

The officers have been treated for non-life threatening injuries and the man remains in custody helping police with their enquiries.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in Lockview Road in Stranmillis at around 8pm on Sunday and saw the silver Audi A3 car with up to three men inside acting suspiciously - or who saw the car in Ardmoulin Street at around 3am on Monday.
