Police pelted with petrol bombs while guarding murder scene

Police were attacked with petrol bombs while they guarded a crime scene in Lurgan.

It happened in the Victoria Street area of the Co Armagh town on Wednesday at around 9pm.

Police said officers guarding the scene, where a 45-year-old man was killed on Sunday, came under attack.

Petrol bombs landed on the road next to the officers, but no one was hurt.

Riot police were sent to the scene in case the trouble escalated.

Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: “The petrol bombs struck the road and thankfully there was no damage to property and no injuries.

"Additional officers attended the area however there were no further incidents.

"We are investigating the petrol bomb attack and would ask anyone in the community who may have information or know who was involved, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1246 09/08/17.”
