Police probe St Patrick's Day sex assault on teenage girl in Londonderry

By Nevin Farrell

Police are investigating what they have described as a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in Londonderry city centre on St Patrick's Day.

The incident occurred in the Bank Place area on Thursday evening but details only emerged yesterday.

A teenager was arrested and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

On Friday police said 13 people were arrested in Derry on St Patrick's Day.

The PSNI said the arrests were for offences which included disorderly behaviour, indecent behaviour, common assault and resisting police.

PSNI Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said the arrests represented a "very small percentage" of the thousands of people who celebrated in the city.
