Police probe suspicious death of May Stevens at Belfast house

By David Young

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman in her home in north Belfast.

May Stevens (64) died in a house in Lismoyne Park off the city's busy North Circular Road, in the early hours of Sunday.

The upmarket street, where properties can cost almost half a million pounds, remained sealed off by police officers on Monday as the PSNI’s probe into the death got under way.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service told the Belfast Telegraph that an emergency response crew had been called to the house just after 3am yesterday following a report of a woman having being found unconscious.

Police at both entrances to Lismoyne Park prevented reporters from entering the street to speak to residents.

But as heavy snow fell in the area last night a local man who was out walking his dog on North Circular Road said that the street had been sealed off since at least 7am yesterday morning.

Another local man said that he had seen police officers searching in the hedges and along kerbs earlier in the day.

Police on Sunday would only confirm they were dealing with an incident in the area.
